The biggest mistake would be to interpret the country, its culture and people using your own cultural grid (bias) without even being aware of it; even worse, thinking that your own culture -national or corporate- is superior and should be the sole reference or model for values and actions in the host country. Cultural arrogance and lack of understanding of the local culture can cause expensive mistakes when entering into new countries or launching new brands.
