A successful CEO is measured by the frequency of times he /she goes out to make relationship with outsiders.
As a lady, you may feel sometimes frustrating or inconvenient to go out too often. How do you manage it?
All of us understand that a CEO has to perform management functions – planning, organizing, leading and controlling. s/he plays a vital role and spends almost his/her time to make amicable relationship with his/her customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. If s/he spends too much time with outsiders, s/he may not have enough time to perform his managerial role in the company. Mintzberg stated some major roles such as figurehead, leader, and liaison. Mostly s/he involves in decision making, negotiating, and handling disturbance. S/he is an information bearer, interfacing between board of Directors and employees, between organization and community. In strategic management, his/her role is to set vision, mission, objectives and strategy for the company.

Dear Pierre,
Success of a CEO is measured by business result, not by frequency of the times he/she goes out to make relationship with outsiders. I, however, agree with you that female CEO may feel sometimes frustrating or inconvenient to go out too often. The reason can be either because we have to spend time for family responsibilities, or women are normally not as sociable as men. For me, the solution is to use lunch time for networking and client entertainment so that I can spend dinner with my family. I am also an active member of a number of business associations. Anphabe network is an example. Someone said that good networking is not about how many people you know, but how many people know you!-

Thanks Ms Lan for the reply. I do agree with you that success is measured by result. But statistic shows that success belongs to CEO who has a broad relationship.
