Great question Son! I'm sure many of us echo your question :)

The key to having a balanced life in a crazy changing world is similar to building a strong house in changing weather.

After we have decided on the design of our home, the engineers get to work immediately on the foundations. For the first 30-50% of the construction, most of the work will be underground. When the foundations are done, the house comes up quickly and then we get to the fun part - the interior design. We get to choose the furniture, wallpaper, etc.

Living a great life is similar. We have balance when we have figured out what are the most important priorities that we will not change for the long term (foundations) and what we can be flexible about (the interior design).

For too many years, I lived life without any priorities. Everything was either not important or equally important. I was more interested in interior design of my house than my foundations. As a result, my life (house) crashed many many times.

Trying to build the interior design first and then the foundations later just doesn't work. The interior design is easy to change but foundations are not something we change often. Once we've decided on them, we build it for the long term.

Here are my suggestions:
1. Rank how important your family, career, personal development & any other important people/areas are to you.
2. Discuss them and find agreement with the people important to you.
3. Commit to live by your priorities in the crazy changing situations of life.
4. Find good mentors & friends who have similar priorities and meet them regularly to learn how they do it

Decision making becomes much simpler when there are priorities.
