accidentally or deliberately. Will you interact drastically or “swallow a bitter pill” and consider it natural? What is a well-behavior in this sensitive situation?

It may happen often.. but I have this magic formula for you : O (Outcome) = Event (What happened) + R (your reaction to what happened). Event someone may either accidentally or deliberately steal your effort, the knowledge stay with you (not the thief) which is the most valuable thing that one might get from trying hard doing anything... not the false reputation. This kind of experience will also be valuable for you in the long run to protect what is important for you, sharpen your way to define partner.. and never now, I really believe what you deserve is ALWAYS yours:)

I like the O=E-R example below from Thanh

We place a little bit of our selves in our work and the work becomes us. It reflects who we are and when someone else takes credit for it or "steals it" then that is very personal.

I have found that when that has happened to me I would make sure the one key person who needs to know is made aware of it. I only do this when the "O" is substantial. That does not happen too often.

What is more important is the next thing you create. How do you receive credit for what you have done and protect yourself from it being stolen. For example if working on a new and creative you may begin to tell selected people (i.e. upper management or boss) of importance that you are working on a project and that you expect thee project to add a lot of value. Setting that expectation up front with key people will give you the ownership. If someone steals the the upper management/boss will ask what you had to do with the project. It make sit transparent.

Also in the past, where I had a problem with a specific person that did this I would confront them. If co-worker then I would state it up front but if it was a boss I would take a diffident approach. With a boss I would humbly ask for recognition (well maybe not as humble as I should).

While there are a lot of people who promote themselves with everyone they meet.I found it works best to only promote yourself with key people who have influence and in those cases act humbly.

    Good luck
