Exchange sound recordings with an English speaker. Listen to English speaking people as much as possible. Don't worry though, I can understand you, your English is fine :)

Hi, I have a small tip but very effective with my students. It's simplicity. My students often use complex and long sentences, then vocabulary and grammar are all over the place. As a result, they often focus on how to use the sentence correctly, get stuck when don't know how to finish what they start and forget to focus on the conversation.

For example, this is one of the most typical ways that my student use: "But one thing makes me unhappy is the way of service, where employees had to wait almost another hour, then they then sort the table for us, I think they need to review how the service employees going",...

When they don't break the long sentences into smaller parts, they mess up subjects & forget which verbs belong to which subjects,... things like that. So I ask them to slowly make small sentences with Subject, Verb, Object with full meaning. When they use short sentences correctly, they can learn to combine sentences and apply much better

The other methods are to practice speaking a lot with moderate speed and to watch Friends Show. The show is very funny and uses easy-to-understand language

Good luck! If you want, I'll let you know when we have public speaking activity :)

English is a language of consonant (Phụ âm). We Vietnamese are used to our mother tongue, which rely on vowel (nguyên âm) so much. English speaker don't care much about vowel, they can't understand what you said unless you pronounce the consonants clear enough. Hope this may help someone ^^.

In your daily life, speak English as much as you can, read as much as possible, listen to native speaker regularly and try to write in your communication at work.

Find the topics you like most, then you will have the motivation to move forward. Ex:if you like business
Turn on Bloomberg to watch and listen to business news b4 going to work, ; read wall street journal or Bloomberg news during lunch time; subscribe to TED talk if you have an apple product at night...and go to English speaking club in your free time (in case you don't communicate in English at your office)

Just sharing my experience in learning English:

I think, I was not different with everyone in learning English before. I always thought ideas in Vietnamese first then translating them in English before writing or speaking. My vocabulary was so good that I could translate words by words at any times. But, after many years learning English in some night classes I realised my English was not improved and could not speak it fluently. It made me less confident when practising English with others. I gradually felt English so borring that I could sleep well on table everytime in class and only wakened up by the school bell. Even then, when working as an interpreter for an International organisation in VN my English was still bad....

Until now living in Australia and learning English from Australians' daily communications, I realised English as a tool for communication. When speaking English to Australians by Vietnamese way I felt so confused with their reactions because they did not understand me. It's English from translation not right English.

Fast speaking is not important at all. The importance is what ideas and how clearly you are expressing to others who in return understood you well. The speed you speak in English is the same way you speak in your mother language, so no worry about it. I've learned English as a child learning to speak. I empty Vietnamese in my mind in order to listen with care and then repeat exactly what I hear to confirm my understanding. I also throw away the English-Vietnamese dictionary to only use the English-English one.. I have more readings in English to copy the way of writing in English. It's really so difficult at beginning but after that I see everything ok.....

In my opinion, listening is the key for your success to learn English fast, I would say! Most of people try to be "perfect" before they start to speak, that is a wrong way to own any language! Let's listen to a very simple story or whatever you like, and try to understand it deeply. Don't try to listen to a very hard paragraph or a philosophical story, sth like that, it does make you in trouble, just a very simple one, and again again again until you got it totally. Once you listening deeply, speaking will be appeared naturally, like a child does. Try more and more, day after day, month after month, even years, but you may know that doing such a "philosophical work" always requires both patience and discipline. Language is not for a while, it'll take time definitely! In addition, plz throw away your text books, if you wanted to speak or to learn English naturally by reading text books, you will not be able to reach the end! Hope this helps!
