Before I go into the story: do not make the mistake of taking networking for friendship. you may encounter people you fit and become friends and you nurture the relationship, the others have to be let go!
Imagine your dream is to build good and cheap Vietnamese cars. Your success! what knowledge and what network do you need? IT, designer, engineers, production, suppliers in China, Europe technology, local dai ly, local marketers, financing etc...
Think of your success as a ladder with 1 bar is knowledge, another bar is relationship, and so on to the top
1- Knowledge is increasing about car, you network with engineers, designers, industrial zone managers etc...
2- then you get more knowledge on start-up, investment and car partnership, you network with exporters, investment funds, production directors, marketing directors, sales managers, service of investment and planning. You climb the ladder of networking (you don't have more time to devote to the guys who helped you at stage 1-
3- You've finalized the project and studies, all is known to start the factory and sell, time to mingle with the CEOs or owners of the european car company, bank owner, the owners of agencies, the people's committee
Getting the knowledge is the most difficult -it is really hard work- but in fact most people fail because of the networking, they don't dare climbing to the top... widely known as they are out of "their comfort zone".
