In the trouble time of one company, which skill do you prefer? Leadership or Management?

When I studied Foundation of Management, Leadership part, my lecturor picked me up and told me summarize the history of Uncle HO because I'm the unique Vietnamese in class. Then I know that, Uncle Ho becomes the classical icon of Leadership all over the world. Now, I ask your question. In the trouble time of one company, Leadership skills are most important. At that time, your company need a leader. All of resource need to focus on just only one solution to rescue your company. Moreover, good leader is a person who know how to relief organization's pain. Thinking Uncle Ho and thinking Vietnam in war period.

In general, I can say " Both!" Leadership helps you to maintain and power up the team's spirit and Management helps you to manage the "in-put" and the "out-put" how to keep the company survived or if possible, make it run in the most efficient.

I can describe the "trouble time of the company" as below:
- Short of capital;
- Sales drops;
- The "in-put" cost increased;
- Term of payment for customers is prolonged while that of supplier is shortened;
- Margin is cut for competitiveness; ans so on...

Depends on what is your goals to overcome this "trouble time" or depends on what features of trouble your company in, that Leadership or Management is preferred...

I am willing to share further for this question if I can have more further information on the "trouble time of the company" that you mention.

What is different between Leadership and Management? In my point of view, the management always follow up the procedure, instruction which has been created and approved by organization. He/ she has to make sure the activities of organization to be implemented and respected according to these approved ones. The Leadership who has to has huge vision, think about the strategy of organization's development, generate all ideas are come true...Both of skill are necessary for all people. I like this subject...:-)

I totally agree with Mr.Van Tran. That is the most proper time requiring your leadership skill to rescue your company, dealing with the hard time. If you get the leading skill, you are enable to seek out other competent people to help you as well. At that time, your staff who sharing the same boat with you might desire to see it in you, their leader the most, I suppose. It is the time that they hope to have a great captain the most. Therefore, I much prefer leadership rather than Management when my company is is trouble.

I totally agree with Doug, leadership is what is most needed in times of crisis.
