No theory in HR because you are dealing with Human and no one has ever predicted what the human life and future should be. What is good or bad for an employee, only the employee really knows.
How many talented Marketers have decided to go Painting or traveling...
Human psychology and behavior theory is better to understand what motivates people.
The HR management is just the practice of adjusting incentive, training, rewards as to motivate every one. HR is techniques not theory. It adjusts with the company, the people, the strategy, the profits you have (or have not)...

If I'm correct, the question that Rosie want to ask is that basing on one's hierarchy of needs in current position to identify one's management style.
Theory X says employees dislike, avoid work and must be driven to it. They have no ambition and avoid the responsibility, resisting change. People work for money and security (psychological & safety needs)
=> it applies to workers in factories who goes to work only for earning a living.Theory Y aims at higher order human psychological needs, which states that people enjoy their job, work can be as natural as play and rest. They care more about the organization's goals and people will be committed to their objectives if rewards are in place that address higher needs such as self-fulfillment. People will seek responsibility.
Theory Z emphasizes the ego needs. Money is not the first thing here (financial freedom), they care for the rewards, reputation, power.. They are loyal to the company.

People aim at the top of the pyramid, the rest are steps to reach there. Some cant make it, some do it ethically or in good spirit. Most dont aim at the top because they give up, think the top is for others!

True. Many people aim at the top of the pyramid, not everybody. Some of my friends think that the financial freedom is for someone else, not themselves. They often say: I only hope to earn enough money for my daily life, feed my children, 3 meals per day, hospital fee, monthly electronic bills, telephone bills... that's enough. Being at the top of the pyramid even never appears in their dreams.
At the moment, I'm working on theory Y too. I still work for money, but far more for the enjoyment. So where are you all standing now? Are you living without any worries about money for your daily activities?
